Family Album Help
Getting Started
To start the family album click the Family Album tab.
and then click the People link
Now you can look through all of the people in the family album, by clicking on any of the circlar images.
Editing the Family Album
Everything within the family album is editable by everbody, you don't need any special software.
Here are the steps to add your own family to the album:
- Create a Photo Album
- Upload photos into the photo album
- Add details about your family (name and sex of each person)
- Define the relationships between each person.
- Indicate who appears in each photo
- Give details about each photo, such as the year it was taken.
The rest of the page takes each of these steps one by one. You might find it useful to print out this page, so that you can follow the instructions while you add your family photos.
Create a Photo Album
Start the family album, and then click the Edit link
Then choose the Add a New Album option.
Give your photo album a useful label. If you aren't sure what to call the album, using your name is a good idea.
Upload Photos
Photos must be placed into albums, so if you haven't created an album yet, do that first (see above).
Click the Albums link, and select the album you want to add the photos into.
If you just created a new photo album, then you should already be at the right place, but its good to go through the motions, now, so that you'll be able to add more photos later.
Now click the Edit link.
Choose the Add a Photo to Album option, and follow the on-screen instructions.
Add Details About Your Family
You need to enter the name and sex of each member of your family.
- Click the Edit link
- Choose the "Add Person" option
- Enter their forename, surname and sex and then click Ok.
At this stage you will be asked for the relationships to other members of the family album. If this is the very first member of your family to go into the family album, then skip this stage by clicking Ok. The reaason for skipping, is because you need to have both people in the database before you can specify their relationship.
For example, if you want to add the relationship "Queen Elizabeth is the mother of Prince Charles", then add person "Queen Elizabeth", then add person "Prince Charles" and now you can add the relationship (once both people have been added).
Note. You only need to enter one half of the relationship. For example, you can say that "Prince Charles is the son of Queen Elizabeth" or you can say that "Queen Elizabeth is the mother of Prince Charles". You don't need to do both.
Editing Relationships
You need to enter the relationships within your family so that you can navigated from one person to another; moving through your family tree.
Here's a picture of the form you need to fill in.
The left hand column lists all of the people in the family album. The next column are all the types of relationships. The last column shows the relationships currently known about for that person (in this example Nick Robinson has two brothers, a mother and a father).
To get to this form:
- search for the person you want to edit (using the People link)
- select the person you want to edit
- Click the Edit link, and choose the Edit Relationships option.
There are instructions at the bottom of that page describing how to use the form, so I won't bother duplicating them here.
Note. You only need to enter one half of the relationship. For example, you can say that "Prince Charles is the son of Queen Elizabeth" or you can say that "Queen Elizabeth is the mother of Prince Charles". You don't need to do both.
